Presentation of the Alliance Française of Lusaka

The Alliance Française of Lusaka is part of the network of 1052 Alliances set up in 152 countries. Established in 1972, it’s the most important of 5 Alliances being in Zambia (Kitwe, Ndola, Kabwe, Livingstone and Lusaka) and its action revolves around three major ideas which aim to implement:

  • The promotion of French and the teaching of French language (French as a foreign language and French for Specific Purposes)

A part from French courses being taught in and outside its premises, Alliance Française is steering educative and linguistic cooperative action with the French Embassy.
It’s trying to implement OIF plan/project which runs the luinguistic training of African Diplomates (in relation with Comesa and SADC), coordinates in partnership with the Zambian Ministry of national education, the revival project of the French language through the provision of French books and the training of teachers from different learning institutions, handling of the scholarship records of Zambian students and running the COMESA French language centre.

  • Spreading of the francophone culture and the support of its dissemination in Zambia, support of the Art and Zambian culture

The Alliance Française of Lusaka has a beautiful building and a multipurpose hall where various entertainments, important cultural events are held including regional and sub-regional as well as more confidential events which could not take place without its support. Alliance Française also promotes the Sakala Art centre, the only art training centre in Zambia allowing its students to access a stage and a public. The Alliance Française has put in place an important communication project relayed by three radio stations, three television channels and two major partner newspapers.

  • Coordination of Alliance Française network in Zambia

The Alliance Française network consists of 5 branches whose activities are coordinated by the Alliance Française of Lusaka. It has put in place a professionalization programme for these Alliances in order to develop/strengthen public and private partnership and propose a quality cultural programming.

The Alliance Française of Lusaka, it’s also a restaurant, a rich multimedia library containing more than 7000 books, magazines, audio and videos in French.
